  • Because every client, project and budget is different, when you work with Studio Lu we work with you to determine which service and pricing structure best matches your needs. Following the discovery call, you will receive a letter of agreement that includes a summary of scope and an estimate for my design fees. Design fees take into consideration client meetings, presentations, and site visits. Once we get deeper into the process I will provide a holistic estimate, including costs for any tradespeople, furniture, décor/accessories, etc.

  • If you have a budget, please do share! If not, we can work together to develop a few scenarios for what it “would take” to achieve a design you love.

  • Discussing your timing expectations and then setting a realistic timeline at the onset of the project based on what’s included was an important step.

  • Yes and also yes. I do usually take bids on contracted work to ensure you get the best price. But I have people I regularly work with and I’m happy to use your contacts, too.

  • Customization and uniqueness come from personalized design solutions, styling for your specific aesthetic and personality, your homes architecture and how you use your space every day. While one-of-a-kind furnishings and accessories, design details and solutions will be considered in your design, the democratization of design has opened the doors for access to things that historically were only available to high-end interior designers; therefore, it’s the combination of all “the things” in your personal space that gives it the only-you vibe.

  • Absolutely! If you have a family heirloom, favorite piece of furniture, or piece of stellar artwork you picked up for twenty-five cents at a garage sale, let’s incorporate it into your new favorite space. I sometimes even like to shop your house, or your storage room(!), to see if there might be some hidden gems that can be incorporated.

  • Executing the design on our standard timeline and process is preferred. Reason being it keeps my design hours as close to the estimate provided, as well as ensures that all of the items included in the design are available to purchase (in-stock, at price quoted, etc). But for many clients, the time and budget play a large role in how quickly you can move on the full scope of the project. During our consultation call, we’ll chat about your ideal timeline and create realistic goals, so I can check off your list without invading your life and draining your bank account.

  • Depending on the scale of project, it can take just a few months to a full year. Discussing your timing expectations and a realistic timeline at the onset of the project is an important step.

  • The letter of agreement outlines a tentative start date for your project. When that date comes, I will reach out to you to schedule a kick-off meeting.

  • I’m very transparent with pricing and sourcing, so if you do find something at a better price i’d love to see it. It’s good to keep in mind that pricing is often about more than just cost — I also take into consideration carrier, freight, return/exchange policy, inventory availability and customer service.

  • For my typical design services, I prefer to purchase the majority of the items so I can manage the budget, timelines and integrity of the product. Plus, some of the selections may only be available to purchase by trade. If you love to shop, then my e-design services might be what you’re looking for!

  • Curating a space that is uniquely you means finding items from a variety of sources. I utilize a wide and varied group of retail stores, to-the-trade-only showrooms, local boutiques, wholesale, secondhand/thrift and even shop your storage room where things go to die. It’s entirely up to you whether you’d like to see the items in person. Many of my clients never see the furniture until it shows up at their home. Either way, communicating your preference is requested at the onset of the project.

  • Now, in all fairness I do infuse some of my personal design style to each project – solutions for increased ease of flow, real plants (come on, you can keep them alive!), clean surfaces, ambient lighting (I’m a huge fan of “lamp-o-clock”!), opportunities for meaning and consideration of all the senses.

My inspiration comes from everywhere! Nature, travel, fellow designers, social media, local boutiques, antique shops, showrooms/retail, film or TV shows, home tours…and yes, magazines and catalogs. Ya, I’m old school like that.

  • There are three factors that need to be considered in advance of starting your project – prioritizing these will help make decisions along the way much easier! These factors are price, quality, and time. Typically, you can’t have all three at equal value, one needs to give. For example, are you working within a very tight budget or do you have wiggle room? Do you have kids and pets so an item needs to withstand daily wear and tear for several years or do you intend to replace it in 4-5 years with something new? Does your project need to be completed by a certain date because of an event or deadline?

  • Pictures of the space(s), any inspiration you’ve pulled, consideration for your design aesthetic preferences, ideal timing for project completion, reflection around how you/your family use the space – including what you love today and any pain points, insight into the decision makers for the project. If a remodel or new construction, copies of any floor plans or architectural plans.

  • Depending on the project or space, concepts and ideas can be showcased through mood boards, mock-ups, physical samples/materials/textures, room layout and/or sketches. I do not currently offer 3D renderings.

  • My real-life experience, along with curiosity, problem solving and a desire for connection, fuels my passion for Interior design today. Hopefully my portfolio will showcase my capabilities - and maybe someday I will go back to school!

  • Purchases can be delivered directly to your home, or you can opt for a more full-service approach where we use a commercial receiving service. It all comes down to the vendor requirements for delivery, your budget and availability to accept deliveries and inspect the products. If you opt to have purchases delivered as they become available, it’s important the items are inspected, and any issues are brought to my attention right away. I also ask that you trust the process – each item is part of a larger whole – the holistic, cohesive design comes to life when all the space is styled.

  • If this is your preference, then we will strive to give you the big “Wow!” reveal moment. This is something we can discuss in our initial meetings to ensure your expectations are met!

  • I’m as frustrated with shipping delays and backorders as my clients. It’s important to note that delays do occur, and we are here to advocate on your behalf. I work hard to get to the bottom of the delays and work alongside the vendors to remove any obstacles. Any delays will be communicated in advance, and if needed, we might offer up an alternative solution or substitution. Depending on the situation, I may request that the vendor provide a solution beyond substitution. There are many factors that play a role in creating your design, therefore we request your patience as unexpected circumstances arise.

  • If you ask, you shall receive.

Loved Maggie’s responsiveness and ease of working together!
